HOW CAN I HELP?
Interested in joining the Downtown Theatre as a volunteer?
It doesn’t take any special skills. Just a desire to support the local performing arts
in Fairfield and a love for working with and for friendly people who love the theater!
SAFETY FIRST: DUE TO THE ONGOING COVID-19 PANDEMIC
WE ARE NOT CURRENTLY SEEKING VOLUNTEERS.
We are looking for people ages 15 and up who would like to assist in the following areas
(please note: depending on staffing, we may ask you to assist in other areas):
-
USHER: greet people at the doors and provide them with programs. If necessary, assist them in finding their seats. You will also be expected to be inside the theatre during shows, keeping an eye out for patrons who may need attention. After show, volunteers assist with picking up litter inside the theatre. This position does require standing for at least an hour prior to show.
-
WILL CALL: greet people at the entrance and provide them with tickets they may have purchased online. You will also be expected to be inside the theatre during shows, keeping an eye out for patrons who may need attention. After show, volunteers assist with picking up litter inside the theatre. This position may require standing for at least an hour prior to show. You will also need to have good concentration as the line can get busy and patrons may often have similar names.
-
TICKET SCANNER: using a ticket scanning app provided to you, scan the tickets of patrons entering the theatre. You will also be expected to be inside the theatre during shows, keeping an eye out for patrons who may need attention. After show, volunteers assist with picking up litter inside the theatre. This position may require standing for at least an hour prior to show. Staying calm under pressure is a plus here, especially during popular performances where patrons are eager to enter the theatre.
-
CONCESSIONS: assist in the snack bar, selling food items and beverages. Must be over 21 years of age to dispense alcohol. After show, volunteers assist with picking up litter inside the theatre. This requires standing for at least one hour prior to show, as well as 20-30 minutes at intermission. A good head for numbers is a plus as you will need to accept money and give change for purchases.
-
SPOTLIGHT OPERATOR: assist in operating the spotlights during performances. Please note: this position involves working in a position above the balcony area. You must be comfortable being in high places. Wearing a headset to receive direction, you will use a spotlight to follow performers on stage. This position will require you to be standing for the entire performance. In addition, you will need to be available for additional times during rehearsal week to perform in a run-through of the show. If you are interested in volunteering behind the scenes, this is a great way to do it!
